(Brief) Backstory.

Chang-Ho Choi, better known by his alias Élie, is a human-turned-vampire currently located in Soho, Manhattan. In 1942, when Korea was a colony under Japan, Élie was attacked by a vampire and practically had his throat ripped open. Moments later, he lost consciousness, and unbeknownst to him, the vampire had been subdued by Kyung-Ja Kwon, a pureblood vampire hailing from the Joseon dynasty.

Taking pity on the dying man. Kynug-Ja turned him into one of her own. A few days later, Élie regained consciousness, and learned what happened previously from Kyung-Ja, who told him that she was now his "Sire." With no one else to turn to, the then fledgeling decided to stay with Kyung-Ja, and the two remained in Korea until 1950 when the Korean War began, forcing them to flee to Los Angeles, California.

Since then, Élie has adapted well into the vampire lifestyle; though there are moments when cravings get the best of him. To support himself in Manhattan, he works as an artist and at the local Barnes & Noble bookstore. When desperate times call for desperate measures, however, he steals money from victims he feeds on. He isn't proud of it, but it's not the worst thing he's ever done.

Vampiric Characteristics.

• Like all vampires, Élie consumes blood to survive, and only human blood will satisfy his needs. Though his stomach doesn't reject animal blood, it will only satisfy his hunger temporarily (for about an hour, at most).

• Sunlight can't kill him, but it does make him feel extremely uncomfortable. If he stays out in it too long, his skin will blister and peel. Due to this, he tends to carry an umbrella with him during the day if the temperatures are extremely high.

Speaking of injuries, Elie has regenerative abilities; however, they’re very weak. For example, if he accidentally nicks himself with a knife, then it’ll heal fast, but if he’s stabbed or shot at, the injuries won’t heal on their own and medical attention will be needed. Once the wounds are closed, then the injury can heal like it usually does.
• A stake (or anything sharp, really) through the heart and decapitation can effectively kill him. Silver, usually in the form of bullets, can also do a number of damage that can kill him if not immediately treated.

• Due to his vampirism, he can’t indulge in most regular foods. Greasy and salty items such as fast foods hurt him badly. If he eats anything like that even in small amounts, then he usually throws it up in the form of black blood. It’s disgusting, to say the least, and it makes him ravenous afterwards. The few things that don’t appear to upset his stomach are fruits, vegetables, and very small amounts of sweets (weirdly enough).

• He can sense whether someone is human or not. Elie doesn’t recognize all supernatural and non-human scents, but he can tell that they aren’t human.

• Crosses don’t weaken him or anything. If someone held a cross towards him, he’ll just stare at them in complete confusion.
Adding onto that, garlic doesn’t have any effect on him, either. The only “traditional” vampire weakness that does cause harm to him is silver (as mentioned earlier).
